The Edge

We all want to be competitive in everything we do. And no more so that with punting on horse racing.

Success in punting on horses, in fact most things reduces down to an information war - the people with the best information make the smart moves.

Books have been and still are the best source of general information, and this applies at least as much in the art of racehorse selection and staking as in any other field.

Author Paul Segar has produced textbooks which cover all aspects of punting. The books alone stand as a complete reference but also provide 'food for thought'. You can develop / improve your own ideas as well as learn some new techniques.

Each book is written in plain English with plenty of practical examples in each chapter. Browse the contents of each book or email for further information, if required.

The Focus

The Pureform Quinella Staker can be used for horse racing, harness racing or greyhound racing. Simply run the program before the start of your favourite events and all the fields and information are presented in a few seconds, ready for use.

The Pureform Quinella Staker is a most versatile piece of software. It allows the use r to accurately stake quinellas according to the market being used and then place the bets as a batch. It is a truly powerful program. But it isnt just here where the power is.

The real strength of the program is in:

  • adjusting the market to a given percentage (usually 100%) and
  • the associated business rules that can be applied to any race.

These and other things (staking accurately) make this program a must for any serious quinella player.

The example shown in the larget image illustrates the power of correct staking.

The race is the Underwood Stakes (21/9/2013) run with a very short priced favourite. The stake placed on the eventual quinella using simply the TAB prices to collect $100 was $19 and given the quinella paid $5 was almost the correct collect of $100 ($95 collect on the first and second favourite is excellent).

This example just shows how great exact staking is. And collects can be massive if you can make some strong selections.

Play the Markets

The program offers some real opportunities for the smart operator who simply wants to play the markets.

The example applies to Chautauqua who proved in the end to be one of the all time greats but at the time of writing, he did look doubful as ran on the September 2016 first up over 1000 m at Moonee Valley.

Now as anybody knows Chautauqua is one of the best horses in the whole world and is in no way an inferior galloper and for many their favorite horse, ours as well. However around the tight Moonee Valley circuit he was always going to get back and everybody knew that and most simply expected him to fly home and win the race. Given the track layout this was almost impossible and so one of the options available using the Quinella Staker is to basically support the rest of the runners at your own prices or simply using the available TAB prices.

Here is the race as shown in the program with the relevant quinella bets:

Quin

Basically omit the favourite back the rest at TAB prices.

Quin

The quinella paid $31.20 on the VIC TAB

Outlay $45 return $124.80 Profit $79.80 (177% POT).

Now you can simply laid Chautauqua on Betfair for the win and perhaps for the place. Chautauqua started around $2.20 on Betfair and so betting $45 you could have made around $45. The same Quinella wager laying Chautauqua from the $45 outlay you made almost $80, almost odds of $3.

As they say there is “more than one way to skin a cat” and there is also more than one way to make a profit from an unsuccessful runner.

Business Rules

The suggested business rules that come with the program can be adjusted to suit the event in question with additional rules added as required making it a flexible betting approach.

The program is priced at $220.
